Did someone say or do something nasty to you? Are your feelings hurt? Or maybe it’s just bruised pride. Never-the-less, you feel really crappy right now because someone was acting like a giant asshat and you feel misunderstood. You wish you had a magic wand to turn their face into a butt. Luckily all you need is a marker and for them to go to sleep (just joking). We’ve all been there. Luckily, there are ways you can deal with this mess. Here’s how;
Give Yourself a Spa Day:
Self-care is of the best and most sacred practices that’s been with us since the beginning of time. When you pamper yourself; do your nails, put on a facial mask and rub your skin with a sugar scrub the world doesn’t seem so bad. During this time, it is best to give yourself a rest. Take a break from everyday life. When you take care of yourself, you will find that the answer to your situation is actually very simple. Besides after feeling awful, you will feel awesome.
Nosh on Wine and Cheetos:
Best combination ever! After dealing with the mean and nasty, it’s time to dive into the delightful and delicious. A good glass of the best wine in the world (Moscato for me) and a cheesy finger licking treat (like Cheetos Mix-ups) is just what the doctor ordered (This doctor anyway). Now despite what certain experts say, sometimes you need a little indulgence. It will help calm you down, lower your blood pressure (probably not your cholesterol) and ease a tense situation. Allow yourself that. You deserve it.
Sleep on it:
Is it possible that you did not get enough sleep when this happened? Could you be overreacting when you normally wouldn’t? It is very possible. Our minds, bodies and souls need 8 hours of sleep a day in order to be balanced. There are many reasons why we need a good sleep but the biggest one in this case could be that your judgement is impaired. Try going to bed early one night and get some much needed zzz’s. The next morning, you will feel refreshed and your perception will be much clearer.
Sometimes things seem dire and you don’t know what to do. Why not get a little magic? There are plenty of crystals out there but these are the ones you want to get. When disappointment hits a sunstone for positive thinking, smoky quartz to turn negative energy into good, moonstone to re-balance your emotions and light green serpentine to let go of the past is what is needed. Put these four stones into a small cloth bag and keep it on you. Touch them whenever you feel down and say three times, “I let go of pain, I let go of anger, I breathe.” In a few days, you will begin to notice a difference.
Have a cup of tea
It sounds simple but it really does work. A cup of tea is a soothing and relaxing ritual to give yourself when you are feeling blue. You can have any kind of tea you want but I recommend turmeric tea mixed with honey, orange and cinnamon. Studies have shown that turmeric relieves
symptoms of depression. Honey and cinnamon together give a person more energy and immunity. And oranges are a natural mood booster. Hold the cup in your hands and breathe in the heavenly aroma of your tea. After taking your first sip, your anger will melt away.
Get Some Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is an amazing mystical practice. Essential oils will trigger certain emotions that our brains associate with those scents. It is up to you but here is my recommendation. Mix together 10 drops each of lemon, rosemary and jasmine essential oils in 90 mls of a carrier oil of your choosing (eg. Coconut oil or jojoba oil). These particular scents are meant to clear your mind and lift depression. Put the oils on your hands and rub them until it soaks into your skin. It is definitely worth a try.
Ride a Roller Coaster
There is no better feeling than the wind rushing through your hair as your body flies in the air at an incredible speed. A magnificent rush of adrenaline makes your heart beat faster, endorphins get released and your smile can’t help but appear. For a few brief minutes our troubles vanish into a frenzy of fun. There is nothing more magical than flying literally by the seat of your pants. Need I say more?
Go for a Walk
Walking is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Go outside, get some sun on your skin and fresh air in your lungs. This great exercise can be done at any time. When we walk we boost our mood, keep our bodies in good shape and give ourselves a good habit that will create even more good things for us. A brisk walk seems to miraculously relieve us from any negative feelings and show us how we can feel better about everything.
Talk to your friends/family
Always find someone in your life that you can vent to. Talking to someone who understands you helps relieve your anxiety and rise above it. It’s also good to get another person’s perspective. Sometimes they can give you brilliant advice and a better awareness of the situation. Feel free tospeak your mind and never let these things bottle up inside you. A friend or family member is there for you to do just that. Reach out to them. Just make sure they’re not invisible. Those just lead to trouble.
Talk to the person who hurt you
This is not an easy task but it is necessary. You don’t have to be condescending or nasty to them, just speak plainly. Tell them that you did not like what they said/did and it hurt you. You might find that they are gracious and apologetic …or not. When that happens it is clear that the problem is with them and not you. There is reassurance in knowing that they are living their lives like that and you can move on.
With these tips you can butterfly kiss your blues away. It’s also important to remember that we are all human and make mistakes. Sometimes people say or do things that they don’t mean and end up kicking themselves later for it. When that happens, sometimes it’s best to just let it go. One good thing about being human is our ability to forgive and move forward. Don’t forget that. Did I miss anything?
