The Journey to Achieving Your Goals

Got a dream that you want to come true?  Most of us do but dreams are different from goals.  Start with goals.  Goals open us to all the possibilities, give us a purpose and the ability to inspire others to pursue their dreams.  As human beings we need a target to shoot for.  It challenges us, makes us energetic, gives us focus and helps us think outside the box.  Whether it is a career goal or a

personal one, it is all about the journey.  Here is what you can do to help the journey along smoothly.

Know Yourself

“But I already know myself.  What are you talking about?”  That’s probably the first thought in your head.  I don’t blame you, I too take pride in self-awareness but you will be surprised at what you don’t know.  Just one lazy day or bump in the road can lead you to ask questions about yourself and where you are going.  So introduce yourself to you again.  A good way to do this is to start a journal.  Write down anything from your feelings, to what happened in your day, what you like, what you don’t like, etc.  After that look around at your surroundings.  What does your home tell you about yourself?  What do your movies and knickknacks say?  Or what food do you keep in the fridge? Do a full study, it can really open your eyes.

Have a Passion

My current passion

Passion is what drives us.  It helps us get up every single morning and do what we do.  So what is your passion?  It can be anything from cooking lovely meals, making jewelry, doing yoga or even selling real-estate.  Whatever that desire is look into it, get some information/inspiration and go with It.  The more you learn, practice and produce everything that follows will lead the way to your destiny.  Don’t get me wrong.  I’m not saying quit your job and go travel the world (unless that is what you really want to do).  I’m just saying look at what you love and see what you can do with that.  It could lead to a career change but the important thing is, you are doing something that makes you happy.

Find Your Element

What you can do and who you are counts.  Make a

list of your personality traits, things you like and what you can do very well.  After that, look towards the four elements of nature to help you make a decision.  The elements are natural, magical criteria that we all fit into.  Here are some brie

What’s your element?

f examples.  Earth people are the practical and grounded.  They like numbers, building, and getting results.  The Air people are the communicators.  They love to talk, analyze and investigate.  The water people are sensitive, creative and a little mysterious.  They are the painters, writers and teachers of the elements.  Now the fire people are energetic, outrageous and original.  They are the daredevils of nature, so it is not surprising that you will find them as entrepreneurs, lawyers and movie stars.  Sometimes you are not just one element but a combination of all. Whichever element you relate to the most, allow yourself to experience who you are with compassion and without judgement.  You own it, my friends!

Crystals made pretty

Keep it Crystal Clear

That’s right, you are going to need crystals.  You don’t need them just for their beauty but for what their energy will attract to you.  So what do you want to attract?  Here is the list: Have a ruby or garnet for passion, a citrine or jade for prosperity, sunstone for happiness and a red tiger’s eye for motivation.  Keep these crystals in a small cloth bag and carry it with you or keep it in the left

hand corner in your house, farthest away from your front door.  Good things will come your way when you have the right gems to help you.

Give your Inspiration an Aroma

Aromatherapy is a great way to motivate and inspire you to move forward with your plans.  I recommend blending orange, vanilla, and frankincense in a nice carrier oil (I prefer coconut oil) and rub it into your sacral chakra (your belly button).  “Why these scents?”  You might be asking.  The orange will lift your spirits and give you enough energy to carry out your hardest tasks.  The vanilla gets rid of negativity and replaces it with serenity and gentle strength.  And frankincense will give you hope and inspire you to reach great heights.  You will be unstoppable with this mystical blend.

Tea and Herbs

Yummy Tea

Teas and Herbs are the oldest, most natural medicines and spirit enhancers that this wondrous world has.  A good tea or herbal concoction will do wonders for when you are trying to shoot for the stars.  The best tea that I find for this situation is either a rooibos or a chai as the base because it has a nice warm, comforting feeling.  Next you will want to add orange peel or blossom, some ginkgo or ginseng and a pinch of cinnamon, ginger, and cloves.  These will give you energy for long hours and lift you back up when you are feeling down.

Know your Steps

Any goal that you wish to achieve has steps that you have to take.  The first thing you need to do is some research.  Go to your local library, go online, or your local college to learn more about what you love.  The next thing you need to do is make a list (yes I am a huge fan of lists).  A step-by-step guide that you can look at will help you a great deal.  On this list put what you need to do and achieve in order to reach your objective.  Last but not least, you need to get to work.  Look at your list and complete each one of your steps.  After you complete a task, bask in the accomplishment (see Celebrate your Achievements) and prepare to complete the next one.  Don’t stop and don’t give up!

Celebrate your Achievements

It’s very important to acknowledge the fact that you completed your first (second, third, etc.) assignment and you are that much closer to making your dreams come true.  So celebrate it!  My advice, is open a bottle of your best wine and savor the sweet taste of a small victory.  To add on to that, get a couple pieces of your favorite chocolate and enjoy.  It’s not every day you get closer to your destination, so make the journey a great one.  What do you all like to do when you are celebrating your latest accomplishment?

It’s always good to have goals and they don’t need to be big goals.  The completion of small goals can lead to big dreams. They give us meaning to our lives.  There is real value in the journey.  You may find the results are bigger and better than you could imagine.  You keep building on each goal and perhaps helping someone else build their own dreams.  So what are you waiting for?

  1. The one thing I don’t do is write down my goals. I know what they are and set out to achieve them. I often wonder am I cheating myself in some kind of way but not writing them down. I also don’t celebrate when they come to fruition. I just smile, tell a few people who matter, pat myself on the back and keep pushing those buttons. I was ‘into’ crystals at one time, but I’ve forgotten how useful they are. Thanks for your guidance in that direction again. Maybe it’s what I’m missing.

  2. you gave some really good tips that I will definietly be using. researching is something I think that is not done as indepth as we need to do it. sometimes we skim the surface too much. It is so true about knowing yourself, its vital if we are to truly be who we were created to be.

  3. Thank you for these amazing tips! I am glad you talked about crystals and gemstones along with their importance. Using them has really helped me in self-discovery as well as in areas of following my own path. I think one thing I’m going to work harder on from this list is celebrating achievements no matter how small it may be. <3

  4. Great post Erika, writing down my goals is something I need to get better at! I tend to write random things down in different places rather than one central place, which just makes things more confusing 🙁

  5. Love this post! I used to journal and I recently bought a ton of crystals, but I definitely need to be much more consistent with both! This is Post was the little boost I needed! Xo

  6. Thanks for sharing! I like these tips a lot. Setting goals really is super important and it’s great for us to have some sort of direction in life.
